If You Want To Build a Business, Leave The Employee Mindset At The Door Together With Its Ego...

This post is a reality check.

[E] = Employee

[B.O] = Business Owner

-----------------------------------------------------

[E] habit: Work hard long hours. Do that every day till you get fired or retired.

[B.O] habit: Work hard long hours in the beginning until you find somebody to replace you. You are in business to buy time, solve more problems, make more money and help more people. You are not in business to work longer hours than your previous job (whatever the revenue).

........................................................

[E] belief: Become an expert at everything you do so you can request a raise or climb the corporate ladder.

[B.O] belief: Become very good in sales and marketing and hire experts for the rest. Selling skills will help you pay the bills. Accounting, designing, managerial, and legal skills won't.

........................................................

[E] illusion: There is an illusion of certainty created from salary. You get it every month and you believe it will be there forever. If you bring that illusion into your business, things are going to be tough.

[B.O] reality: No Sales Pain = No Gain = No Food on the table.

 ........................................................

[E] hidden belief: You are programed to believe that in order to charge a premium you must work even harder. It’s hard for you to charge a lot and keep a straight face.

You subconsciously believe: “tired face = hard work = I deserve to charge a bit more”.

It’s hard for you to support: “relaxed face = simple work (because of experience or knowledge) = charge a premium based on results.

[B.O] belief and reality: You charge based on the perceived value and not based on the work needed. You try to control supply in order to charge even more. You know how desire works and how scarcity affects the price point.

........................................................

[E] habit: You are in love with your skills.

[B.O] habit: You are in love with your customer so you can understand him and create new solutions for his problems. You can find somebody with the skills to fulfill the project.

........................................................

[E] habit: You trade time for money.

[B.O] habit: You trade other people's time for money. If you still trade your time for money, you can't have a business because there are 24h in a day.

........................................................

[E] belief: You have specific tasks and responsibilities. This creates the "this-is-not-my-job" mentality.

[B.O] reality: In the beginning, everything is your job and responsibility.

........................................................

[E] mindset: Your papers on the wall count. (Papers on the wall = degrees.)

[B.O] mindset: Banks don't care if you finished elementary school. They care about your financial statement. Results count.

........................................................

[E] belief: “I am great at what I do. I did it better than my boss. I will start a business.”

[B.O] reality: You can be an expert in your craft, but there are other skills that bring customers to the door.

........................................................

[E] habit: “Yeah, I can do that! I am the best.”

[B.O] habit: I need to create a system for that so other people can do it too.

........................................................

Hope it was helpful.

To your success,

Alex.
